The Hanging Lights

 

The hanging lights on the ground floor of the Diem Bakery building is a permanent art installation created by the Encomas team. The lighting covers were fabricated by a young and talented local tinsmith, Lim Zhan How from Pekan Cina. A third generation tinsmith who apprenticed from his father, he had hand crafted the 48 pieces of round cone shape lighting covers made from bronze and tin plates.

This Red Room was built new at the back of the building overlooking Anak Bukit River on the first floor. The previously shoddy extension was used as bird nest house and was in total disrepair with the ground floor totally dismantled. A contemporary double storey building with ceiling height windows to maximize the view of the river and Jetty Pekan Cina was constructed on the original site.

 

The Royal Room is in memory of the late Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (1927-2017), the 28th monarch of Kedah state from 1958 to 2017. His Majesty served as the 5th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 1970 to 1975 and also the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 2011 to 2016.

A lot of efforts was put into how to save energy, water, other natural resources and be friendly to our environment, making Encomas House the FIRST Green Platinum Certified Building in our Bandaraya Alor Setar.

Revitalization of Lorong Penjara Lama aka Lorong Caffe Diem

Who could imagine 7 years ago, this lorong located next to Jalan Penjara Lama, the first road in the history of Alor Setar and behind Caffe Diem at Pekan Cina, Alor Setar, which was full of rubbish, dark at night, haunted due to the surrounding abandoned buildings, a drug addict haven and definitely not safe to be there at night, has been revitalized into a community space.
